New Harold Wood scheme launched

2008-10-04

Harold Wood’s first scheme to help people with learning disabilities achieve independence is being launched today (10 April) by Councillors Michael White, Michael Armstrong and Steven Kelly. The scheme, run by East Living, has eight self-contained, one-bedroom flats and offers a range of support services.

Harold Wood Hall will support people with learning disabilities to further develop their independence skills, with the aim of enabling them to move into independent living within socially or privately rented housing.

In addition to the eight flats the scheme also provides office space for use by Family Mosaic, who provide housing related support to residents and a training kitchen for use by the Havering Community Learning Disabilities Service. East Living will provide the housing management on behalf of East Homes, the registered social landlord.

Damian Pocknell, East Living new business project manager, says: “Harold Wood Hall will be Havering’s first dedicated move-on service for people with learning disabilities. We are proud to be working with our partners to enable this project to be a success. We hope it will make a real difference to the lives of all who come to live here in years to come.”

Councillor Michael Armstrong says: “This scheme is yet another example of our modernisation in Havering. We are delighted to be working with East Living on this scheme, which will provide essential services to help people with learning disabilities gain independence.”
